A capacity building teacher training to enhance parental involvement in primary education as a key factor in child literacy

Ongoing

In order to give children, and especially girls, chance to a better future, preventing them from dropping-out of school, being illiterate, not graduating, not being able to find a decent job and living in poor conditions, the quality of education has to be enhanced. In addition, parents should be considered as valuable co-educators of their children, which can enhance the motivation of children to learn and support teachers in their demanding job, given the high pupil/teacher ratio. This project intends to strengthen capacity building in (future) teachers (a) through an in-service training for teachers who already work in schools in rural areas, and a pre-service training for student teachers, and (b) through an e-course in a blended learning module. With these teacher trainings we want to enhance quality in education and to promote sustainable, comprehensive and effective family-school partnerships in primary schools in Tanzania. The project includes development of these trainings, evaluation of the trainings after implementation, and if indicated by the evaluation, adapting the training content and materials for future use.
