Supporting Community Health Workers through Interprofessional Learning

Ongoing

This project develops a strategy to support and strengthen Community Health Workers (CHW’s) in preventing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s) in South Africa through interprofessional learning. Nowadays most of the CHW’s act in community as volunteers without training. CHW’s become an important member of interdisciplinary healthcare teams in community and a next step to support CHW’S should focus on training and empowering them. Universities have a prominent and important task in supporting CHW’s by sharing knowledge and expertise. This project is a mutual approach for Universities and CHW’s to learn with, from and about each other; For this reason this project focuses on the development of an overall model to provide a standardized training for CHW’s in order to improve the preliminary support for CHW’s. Participation of different stakeholders will result in a widespread and founded project that will provide an adequate training for CHW’s, result in better-prepared health workers.
