Climate & Security

Ongoing

Belgian development cooperation is confronted with insecurity and instability in certain regions. This causes problems and delays in the execution of development cooperation programmes. The policy supporting research project on Climate and Security wants to assess to which extent the insecurity and instability problems are caused and/ or exacerbated by climate change. Next to this, the research also looks into the challenge of how Belgian development cooperation, with specific adaptation measures, could contribute to a solution for these security related problems caused or aggravated by climate change.

Seen the start of KLIMSEC under the continuing COVID-19 all planned field missions to Central-Africa had to be cancelled/postponed. The extension builds further on the first year project outputs by adjusting and/or adding some additional activities.

For more information on the project outputs: KLIMSEC (kuleuven.be)

Total budget for both years : € 219.000 (2021) + € 172.000 (2020) = € 391.000
