Gait Assessment Lab, an Engineering approach (GALEN)

Ongoing

Cerebral palsy (CP), as other neurological diseases, often causes locomotive problems in patients. A gait assessment Laboratory (GAL) provides detailed information about the biomechanics of the gait. This can help to guide/assess intervention strategies aimed at improving the patients´ walking abilities. The rehabilitation procedures, are also very important in patient’s abilities, and the use of “serious games”, could help to train a more motivated patient specially when it refers to children. The establishment of a GAL in the “J. Diaz” hospital in Havana and the use of a “serious game” for rehabilitation will allow presentation of a new policy to the public health ministry for these patients, facilitate objective research and increase the researchers´ scientific level. A multidisciplinary team will propose the policy, which could benefit thousands of patients in the future, taking into account children suffering from CP, but other patients with other neuro-musculo-skeletal diseases as well.
