Improved management for nitrate pollution in the Lake Victoria catchment of Kenya
OngoingExcess nutrient and sediment discharge in Lake Victoria have led to eutrophication resulting into proliferation of water hyacinth, impairment of transportation, decline in drinking water quality and fish population. The catchment supports 1/3 of Kenya's population and accounts for 60% of the country's surface water resources. This project will contribute to developing a nitrate pollution mitigation strategy by developing human resource and technological capacity for application of classical monitoring and isotopic techniques to assess nitrate pollution pressure.
